My Wish

Hi! I’m Madoka, and for the past year my best friend, Sayaka, and I have wanted to become magical girls just like our friend, Mami; but after she was killed on the job, I didn’t know if I still wanted to or not. What are magical girls? They’re girls who have special powers and fight monsters controlling people to make those people happy! Kyubey always insisted on making me find a wish so I could become one, but I didn’t  know what to wish for. Today, I think the costume idea I’ve saved for months might come in handy, because I finally found my wish. I guess you’re wondering what it is, but let me tell Kyubey first!

4.25.13

It’s April 14th, 2013, and I’m still at school waiting for my English teacher’s lame class to end, and I’m pretty much that kind of happy you see on TV a lot, or at least where I live. Overly excited. Smiling like a clown, but of course I look a lot cuter than that! Almost jumping in my seat. That kind of happy. Sayaka notices me and just smiles at me the way BFFs would always do. But, I wonder what Kyoko is doing right now. Maybe she’s not listening to the teacher and eating her beloved Pocky in class again? I could definitely imagine that.  The hour passed by extremely slowly, and when break finally came, Sayaka runs over to me like any BFF would.

“So... I saw you smiling! Are you in love, too?”, she said jokingly.

“NO WAY!! But you know what?”, I replied.

“Dude, you’re so in love! I can see it!”, Sayaka still sounded like a dummy trying to say that, but that’s just her!

“Ok, I get it, but that’s in your dreams. I actually found my wish!”, I insisted.

“WHAT??!!”

“Yup!”

And just like that, BOOM! An explosion happened and that guy who looks like a mix of a cat and a dog with long ears, Kyubey, appears! Ok, so there’s no gigantic nuclear explosion, just a school bell signaling that Math is going to start and that another lame teacher will come in within the next minute or so, but said incubator is still there. Can you tell I don’t like Math? I thought so!  Maybe it’ll be better now that I can talk to Kyubey and Sayaka in my mind... while being taught about Math related stuff I probably won’t need to use after college!

“Kyubey!” I almost sang... in my mind.

‘Oh, hi Madoka!”, he replied.

“Guess what?”, I said excitedly.

“Let me guess, you did not find a boyfriend, but you found your wish?”, he asked.

“Kyubey....  HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT SAYAKA’S JOKE??”

“I’m like a dog, I go everywhere with you! The thing is, you don’t see me half of the time. That’s a perk of being Kyubey! So, what are you going to wish for? I’ll go ahead and change the time to your lunch break... 13:15 if I’m right?, Kyubey said as he looked the way he always did when saying ordoing anything.

“Dude, you know EVERYTHING!”, Sayaka yelled.... in her mind.

“タイムー ストップ. スイッチ: 十三の十五.”, Kyubey said, almost like a chant.

Let me stop the story for one second. If you’re wondering what he said there, then let me translate. He said, “Time stop. Switch: 13:15.”

So, Kyubey, as expected of a god-like creature like him, changed the time to 13:15, and lunch break finally starts. As always, we go up to the roof of our school, hang out, and eat lunch with our other friends, Kyoko and Homura. Did I mention that they’re also magical girls?  Kyoko loves food in general, and won’t waste anything. If you decide to do so, you don’t want to know what ends up happening. It’s that horrible. Homura is also like that, but when you do anything crazy, like wanting to become a magical girl in my case. She’s always trying to protect me!

“So, Madoka... you finally found your wish, huh?”, Homura said.

“Yup!!”, I said in that super-happy-fun-time voice of mine.

“Well, just so you know, be careful what you wish for... I don’t want you to end up like me and my father did.”, Kyoko added while eating an apple.

There’s a reason why she said that. She was poor, since her dad was a priest for a church that was frowned upon by everyone, until the day she became a magical girl. You do know how in order to become one, you need to make a wish? She wished that her dad’s church would have more followers so he could get more money for it. Of course that happened, but after gaining hundreds of followers, her dad found out about Kyubey’s little trick (that was supposed to be good)... and then I think he committed suicide just a bit afterwards. I know he died, for sure. It was the same thing she said to Sayaka when she wished for her friend’s paralyzed wrist to heal so she could also become one. But, I know mine is going to be way more amazing than that, and hopefully won’t have a horrible ending!

“So, what would you like to wish for, Madoka Kaname?”, Kyubey eagerly said.

“There are so many things I’d like to wish for, but the wish I chose is to be able to wish for anything and be able to get it or make it happen, no matter how hard it would be.”, I confidently say.

“But, what’ll you wish for?!”, Sayaka, Homura, and Kyoko screamed.

“It’s easy! First, I want to bring Mami back to life! Ever since she left us, it’s been quite lonely during English and Math. Then, I want to get rid of all witches! If anything else happens, I’ll try to fix it!”

“I think having Mami back would be awesome, but getting rid of witches? Kyubey would probably come up with another idea for monsters...”, Kyoko said.

Homura just nodded her head and said, “If she’s back, then so will the rivalry...”

(Oh yeah, did I mention that Homura and Mami were rivals, even though they shouldn’t have been?)

“Are you sure, Ms. Kaname?”, Kyubey asked.

After a few seconds, I replied, “I’m sure.”

“Well, here goes nothing.”, he replied.

A few seconds later, a laptop appeared. I thought it would be some kind of arcade machine, but whatever!

“Madoka, there’s a software installed on this laptop. Type the wish in and hope you’ll get it. It’s still in beta, so be careful!”, Kyubey instructed.

I click the icon, and KABOOM!

“Type your wish here:”, the laptop read.

I typed, “Bring Mami Tomoe back to life.” as my friends and Kyubey watched carefully, I could easily tell they were secretly apprehensive.

In an instant, someone was running up the stairs.

“Here we go...”, Kyoko whispered.

A girl appeared. She had blond hair in kind of loose, curly pigtails, light brown eyes, and was exactly like the girl we knew.

“MAMI?!”, we all screamed.

“What’s wrong? Does my hair look weird?”, Mami asked.

“Nope!”, we all replied, attempting to hide our excitement.

“Thank goodness! I was starting to wonder if anything bad happened!”, she embarrassedly said.

“Now for my next wish!”, I happily said.

“Madoka, you became a magical girl?”, Mami cluelessly asked.

“Yup!”, I replied.

“She wished for her to grant any wish she, or others, want.”, Kyubey explained.

“Oh, ‘kay!”, she replied.

I typed that there wouldn’t be anymore witches, I couldn’t think about Mami dieing again.... but, just as Kyoko predicted, the impossible would happen. I hope you don’t mind me skipping again, but much to our disappointment, another thing appeared. It wasn’t a witch... but another kind of monster appeared. I tried wishing for any kind of them to disappear, but an error happened, and now Kyubey can’t fix it.

“Ok, I knew that was going to happen!”, Sayaka exclaimed, while the rest switched to their magical girl personas.

It wasn’t a big fight, but Kyubey was able to get some info: they hate water and Mami’s epic Trio Finale, which is her final attack that almost always results in a K.O.

5.12.13

As the weeks went by, we fought more of these creatures and got more information as well. Kyubey also knows that a boss like the last witch to ever exist, Walpurginacht, is in existence and will appear in a month.  All of us know we need to prepare, since Walpurginacht was a the toughest boss to beat, no lie.

5.18.13

The week before the fight is already here! Homura and Kyubey have prepared the plan and all we need to do is rehearse... no, not the rehearsing you’d do for a play, more like practicing! Mami, Homura, and Kyoko are all vets at this so they’re mentoring Sayaka and me.  The thing is, Homura wants everything to be perfect, so we’re getting in trouble with her a lot. I think that as long as we do fine, we’ll be prepared!

That’s enough for today, good job guys!”, Homura said still unhappy about our horrific progress.

After she said that, I actually feel bad for her because she’s going through all the trouble of planning this like AKB58’s manager. That’s pretty harsh. Sometimes I wish I could help her out, but knowing I'm still a newbie, that won't happen anytime soon.

5.25.12

It’s time. The day we’ve been dreading for the past month has arrived. I hope Mami’s Trio Finale will work as perfectly as always, and that Sayaka and I will do better than when we practiced. Before we hunt, each of us got our phones and headed out, making sure the GPSs were on. None of us had a signal yet, and Kyubey is as worried as a lost dog waiting for his master. After about 15 minutes, Kyoko finally has a Flaming Red Signal, meaning the boss is near. We all run over to the central plaza near our school, and go to the pink/purplish portal we all knew from our experiences witch hunting. I guess some things have never changed.

“The boss is near, get ready!”, Kyubey whispered.

Everyone changed into their magical girl forms, for me it was the 1st time this has ever happened, like ever. I was so happy that my outfit was exactly as I wanted it to be in the sketch! Then, we go into position, like Homura and Kyubey planned, and fight our last battle, the last battle for magical girls, ever. After 80% of the monster’s health is gone, Mami’s Trio Finale should be able to get into the heart of the monster, then, once he’s dead,  I’ll type my wish into the software containing my original wish, which should hopefully work since Kyubey made some huge updates to it. Hopefully, we’ll be able to beat this guy, he’s as tough as I thought!

“Darn, I’m getting tired!”, Sayaka yelled 30 minutes into the battle.

“Sayaka Miki! This isn’t the time to say such things!”, Homura complained.

“We’ll just have to get through it, I know we can! Fighting!”, I said via the voice system Kyubey installed in me.

(How can I say something K-Pop fans would say at such a time?)

Somehow, what I said make her feel so much better, and just seconds later, she unleashes her signature attack! It went so well, all we need to do is the Trio Finale!

“Ready, Mami?”, Kyubey asked.

Mami shakes her head and says, “Trio... FINALE!!”

BOOM! Mami shot her rifle, and the bullets go straight through the monster’s heart. I guess it’s my turn!

“And he’s dead! Madoka, it’s your turn now!”, Mami yelled.

“Come on!”, Homura added.

“Please let this fail...”, Kyubey said to himself.

I typed, “Get rid of all evil creatures that can kill magical girls.”

Soon enough, we were back in our regular outfits. A screen appeared, and it said that we finished the last battle in the history of magical girls. But, what’s going to happen to us now?  And why am I in space? What is this?  

A woman who looks like a future me said, “Madoka, I’m your future self. I just wanted to tell you that you were amazing, I’ve always watched you, and I also know you’re one of the best people I’ve ever seen. But, the IMGA (International Magical Girls Association) would like you to become one of their own, you’d be a part of me, and we’ll be able to rule the galaxy for the good of mankind. You’ll still be able to live the life you’re currently living while doing this.  Do you accept my offer?”

“If it’s really for the good stuff, then I’ll accept.”, I whispered.

But, how could this happen? I’m no god, right? I’ll see what happens to me and the world; plus, I’m going to make this world the best place ever! I think my new nickname should be Godoka, since apparently I rule the galaxy now. My friends better like this!
